Oral Surgery
Oral surgery encompasses invasive procedures that serve to address concerns in and around the mouth. These include tooth extractions, bone grafting, and the placement of dental implants. Our dentists are highly trained and experienced in a full range of oral surgical procedures that support your ongoing dental health. Ridgetop Dental Group Implants offers bone grafting, sinus lifts, and other types of oral surgical procedures commonly performed to establish a healthy foundation after tooth loss or damage to the gums.
Bone Graft
A dental bone graft is a relatively minor procedure for restoring areas of lost or compromised bone in the jaw. The goal of dental bone grafting is to establish a stable, healthy oral foundation for the eventual placement of a dental implant. Dr. Datta and our team of experienced dentists at Ridgetop Dental Group Implants can perform bone grafting in the comfort of our office.
Although a relatively simple and straightforward process, we offer dental sedation to keep you relaxed and comfortable during your appointment. The first step is to create an opening in the gums to access the area where the grafting will be done. If your own tissue is to be used, we will remove the necessary amount of bone from the upper palate or jaw. The bone tissue is then placed directly on the area where there is deteriorated bone and the soft tissue is closed over it with small sutures.
Sinus Lift
If you have compromised or lost bone in the upper jaw, you may need a sinus lift to create a stable foundation for placing a dental implant. Also called sinus augmentation, sinus lift surgery will improve the stability of your upper jaw and the sinuses on either side of your nose. The goal of this type of oral surgery is to create more space in the upper jaw and to strengthen existing bone tissue for placing an implant. To accomplish this, we will effectively “lift” the sinus area that is in the back of the mouth above your molars and support it with new bone that is grafted. The new bone may be taken from your healthy bone in the area being treated or we may use a biocompatible product. The sinus lift is completed in a single visit and will support the best possible outcome for replacing missing teeth with a dental implant.
Tooth Extraction
Removing a single tooth is typically a relatively simple process causing minimal discomfort. We will prepare you for the procedure by explaining the steps involved, discussing appropriate sedation if needed, and making sure that you are comfortable before the extraction. To extract a tooth, we will release the two ligaments on either side of the tooth that anchor it into the bone tissue and gums. Once released, the tooth is rocked back and forth until it is able to be gently taken out of the socket. During this process, you may feel some pressure in the area. Once the tooth is out we will clean the area and pack the socket with sterile gauze to promote the formation of a blood clot and prevent infection.
